Feels like furloughs are a definite at this point but could be wrong, let’s see how far this current disaster goes.
plenty of employees over the years were hoping for a severance package when they were issuing layoffs. However, the company become so tight that they stopped, offering the one week of severance for every year of service.
There’s been so much turnover that there’s not that many employees with 20+ years of service left and they are the only ones who really would benefit from that severance package.
It used to be 1 week of pay for every year of service, up to 26 weeks max, in your serverance package if you got laid off. THIS was always a check on how deep boeing would / could cut as a rif had direct immediate consequences on their bottomline. Now that they have managed to layoff, or force out the majority of their employees with 15 - 20 years or more there is no longer any check and balance as to how deep they can cut. They can now cut with impunity as it won't hurt their bottomline nor will they be losing much experience. I expect the impending cuts to be frequent and very very very deep as the foolish tariffs of an orange man baby will impact boeing worse than a hundred 737 max's falling out of the sky. The past 3 years will seem like the golden years in comparison.
The layoffs were announced earlier this year - they will come. As far as furloughs - maybe.
