Thread regarding Charles Schwab Corp. layoffs

What do you think of the meeting/collaboration at Schwab?

Trying to see if it’s just our team or the culture.

There is a lot of infighting in certain orgs right now. Leadership should look into that - especially the constant land grabs by a certain MD

It has to be your Manager - probably because IS/SOC/ cyber vs. Fraud stuff is so toxic. Comes from the top B.

MD and EC aren’t making time for teams to prioritize culture. There is lots of collaboration, yet any large employee-volume does take extra effort to focus on it vs just recording some video with a script. If you’re still active, look at MyConnections and count the levels of MDs… things get lost in translation…work gets more challenging and volume of demand grows causing conflicts.

Not only do we have disproportionate amount of meetings, but also they are mostly not productive at all.

Collaboration is near non-existent, mostly due to teams drowning in low to zero value work. Mgmt also doesn't help coordinate activities so everything turns into a driveby, unplanned request.

Meetings are to talk in circles and not achieve anything, however status reports always say "met to discuss x". There is rarely a decision from any meeting or action items for anyone. God forbid there are meeting minutes.

Two different things. Meetings are when I get work done. Hours of bogus blathering buffoons. My camera is separate from the desktop and far away. I can code and write and still be on camera. Collaboration is what other companies do.

Schameetings is the Schwab way - decision by meeting - no one could possibly have a good idea/solution without meeting about it for days annnnnnnd then not much gets accomplished

In STS Mostly 2-3 engineers do all the work in a team of 8-10 and all others just watch and do nothing and get paid. I've seen this in many projects in the past 5 years. But they all want status of the work all the time sometimes many times during the day. I think these People Managers, Directors, Fake Tech-Leads, POs, VPs etc should all be sent home without severance. That's my honest opinion.

So many meetings I can’t get my work done and I’m headed for burnout. No one is collaborating because we’re all in the same boat. This is not just complaining. This is a plea.

Way too many meetings in STS and if you miss one it looks bad on your part because you don't seem like a team player.

Well I will tell you one thing returning to office did not increase collaboration. These out of touch executives don’t get that we can collaborate and build culture on this magical invention in 1983 called the internet
