Thread regarding Boeing Co. layoffs

Is it good for the industry that Boeing won the F 47?

I question the long-term effect of awarding a new fighter program to Boeing.

Boeing has a deserved reputation for underpaying, overworking and frequently laying off their employees. Just because they have lower bids is this really the kind of company that the Department of defense should reward? It’s just going to encourage more of the same from Boeing.

This is not the kind of company you want to be representing the aerospace industry in the future when there’s already a shortage of skilled engineers and mechanics entering the field.

Companies like Boeing should fail. You’re paying your CEO $25 million a year and he’s telling you that you don’t have money to spend on a 737 replacement?

The taxpayers should not be bailing out companies like boeing who have wastefully spent millions on CEO pay instead of new product development.

The contract should be awarded to the team that had the best performing airplane and best concept. It’s impossible for me to believe that Boeing, who hasn’t designed anything since the F-18, which was largely designed by Grumman, Would be able to develop an airplane that would be superior to the F 22, F 35 and whatever airplane Lockheed proposed.

It just seems like the prime criteria was not to have to bail Boeing out of bankruptcy by giving them a huge contract

It is for the taxpayer. Much better than bankruptcy.

I don’t think many people believe Boeing had a superior fighter. It seems more likely the government was extending Boeing a lifeline to avoid having to bail them out later due to the mountain of debt they have.

The company has mismanage the 737 and the last several defense contracts they have won. In no way do I think they were deserving to win another defense contract given their previous poor performance, but if cost becomes one of the main criteria, possibly you give it to Boeing because they’re cheaper.

I tend to believe that Boeing management has gotten better now than it used to be (there were no major changes as of yet though), so the bid was realistic. However, it is a long-term contract. It is entirely possible to Boeing is bidding on Trump being out of office when the delivery of the first F-47 is scheduled and then overrun the contract again. I hope it is not the case though.

A competition for the next gen fighter isn't really based on the lowest bid, but on the technology and its ability to provide for the war fighter.
