Does Shell want to become an Energy Trading House

Does anyone feel like Shell wants to become an energy trading business only with strategic joint ventures? I wonder if they want to turn into a business similar to Vitol which has less than 3500 employees but does over $300 billion in revenue. The decision to be more involved in Joint Ventures than to own most of their assets outright is more similar to what Vitol does than how Shell has historically operated.

It is also funny that any asset that Shell sells, the new owners immediately make the sale price back and then a profit within the first year, which just goes to show how many useless processes we have in the organization that don’t help us achieve anything.

Hahahaha

Literally everyone KNOWS that PEMEX is not even a real company. I hope whoever approved that sale is long fired. What a joke of a company we’ve turned into.

OK, Shell is terrible in JV's. But at least in a JV the operating partner can be a voice of reason. Shell as the operator is way worse for the same reasons you point out.

@dk+1jqnaqqah

everyone also knows that JVs are just how shell divests.

we really sold 51% of deer park to pemex and then did a surprise pikachu face when that cartel masquerading as a real company had accidents there and used that to sell more

we also just divested north sea via JV

the examples are endless. gone are the days where a JV meant we really needed to spread risk in a meaty offshore gambit

This much I know from experience- Shell absolutely su-ks as a JV partner. Even as a NOC, every partner wants to bail because of our gold-plated BS. We are a laughing stock now too because of the DEI nonsense versus actually selling true technical competence. As an example, the Saudi’s could give two sh--s about Shell and their DEI focus. The company is a joke.
