The president just sent out an email yesterday stating there will be a reduction in force at Amtrak from now until the end of April. Coming just a week after the CEO resigned.
Does anyone have any idea who or what departments will be impacted? When will staff be notified if their positions are being eliminated? What % of total staff will be impacted??
The layoffs should start at the very top. Amtrak is a very top heavy organization. Otherwise, it is an expected move for a company who went on a hiring spree when Biden was a president. Nothing wrong there, but they did not hire front line employees as it was needed; they hired senior management - directors and executives.
Is it 1200 or 450 total? What’s the total number of employees let go?
Amtrak should not be a government welfare employment program. These cuts are long overdue for such an inefficient and wasteful rail service. Amtrak can provide the same level of service it does now with 30% workforce cut.
I heard nearly 1200 lay offs occurred today and another 5000 are to come nationwide. We’ll see. Praying for everyone.
Word on the street is Amtrak started layoffs today, 5/6/2025. Heard there will be more employees impacted tomorrow and later this week.
Also, no more free coffe since last week.
I am a contractor on the DT side and we are all scared. Before they sack the Fulltimers, I think they will soon be sacking us first. Also, they recently got all remote contractors badges so I can see them implementing RTO for everyone, even the ones that are no where near DC and thus forcing them to just quit. The recent Business Update was in poor taste to tell us there will be a reduction in force but give out no details. The morale is at an all time low. We have seen budget cuts and constant cuts since 2023. All my amtrak co-workers, I am truly sorry for each one of you. How are we supposed to stay focused when we don't even know if we will have a job come May 2025.
Amtrak is selfishly keeping everyone in the dark. They are playing in our faces. It is awful how employees are being treated.
