Thread regarding Canon Inc. layoffs

Micromanaging managers

Let's face it, the organizational changes in January were quite substantial throughout the entire company. Many of us have completely new roles that we weren’t asked if we were interested in or even qualified for, and many of us now have new managers. For years, I worked under a micromanaging manager who wanted to be involved in every single decision, which hindered my growth and learning opportunities. I was never included in the initial stages and was only involved at the very end to carry out tasks. I was set up to be a doer not a thinker. I may be one of the few people in this thread who is actually satisfied with my new management and the way I am being included and involved. For myself and others I've spoken with, this aspect is far more important than having a manager who simply wants everyone to "like" her and controls everything. Change can be difficult, but it might be beneficial for some of us.

The opposite of micromanaging is not managing at all. I think it’s a shame that some of our senior leaders know we have issues within branch management. Although they know these issues exist, it’s simply easier to ignore them.

Senior leaders seem more focused on trying to get to retirement versus being a leader and making notable change when they know these issues persist.

My manager was laid off in july, and our team was moved temporarily to another manager. The director of our group was given a BOCA team that merged with the field team. Our group was finally put under that manager from BOCA. The BOCA manager treats the field team very poorly over his existing team. We are looked down on and constantly ridiculed as the Directing manager lets this action continue. We are publicly and verbally chastised on internal and external calls, totally unbelievable. I'm told our new manager has managed over 200 people in his previous job before he came to Canon. It's no wonder he doesn't do reviews until the end of the year and HR says nothing. Our director is constantly noting that our manager is coaching us, which is crazy when you get slammed publicly, where is the coaching in that. It's sad that a layer of Francis cronies in management was not forced into retirement like him and Ed J.

Good for you! Many of us are still stuck in limbo and do not know what our future holds! Business as usual! Which most likely means we are the next round of layoffs!
