Thread regarding Optum layoffs

Brace for impact

That's it, AbleTo. Brace for impact.

I just left one of the so-called "team alignment" meetings, and the news isn't good. A significant number of engineers working on AbleTo's therapy products will be let go on April 17.

One of the engineering directors was tasked with cutting 6 full-time engineers (Dev and QA). Instead of making thoughtful decisions, she chose people she had never worked with, using a completely irrational and nonsensical process.

As a manager, even though this is all confidential, I feel it's my duty—at least anonymously—to warn the people I manage and care about.

I originally shared the update, but it appears that the planned layoffs within the AbleTo team have been put on hold - for now, at least. That said, please take this with a grain of salt, as it's based on what I've heard and may not be official.

I think everyone understood that AbleTo is part of Optum. Still, AbleTo is a line of products that people need to collaborate and work on together. The AbleTo team was already slim. Losing 6 full-time employees devs/QA will likely cut remaining full-time staff roughly in half. Huge blow to the team that supports the AbleTo products.

My thought is any prior business that is acquired is no longer that past business, it’s Optum now. There is no real separation so not sure what anyone expected - gotta accept you are Optum now
