Thread regarding Twitter layoffs

How sure are you that we will get severance?

Someone here already mentioned the possibility that impacted employees will not receive a package. This is pure speculation and I don't believe it will happen. Actually, I hope that it will not happen.

What you can do is to ensure Twitter follows state laws (where you are) strictly - consultation, period of notification, should the company liable for unused annual leaves? any mandatory minimum serverances?

Also, re-examine your contract if there are any items imply a severance which you can argue in court but do so collectively with others to hire a good plaintiff who can wear Musk down.

Unless you have the funds or have a big enough collective of people that can be in a class action lawsuit, you won’t get severance. My severance at a company was smaller than promised but I didn’t get to do anything about it because the company had enough money to make me wait in court for my entire life. So unless the govt gets involved or you have a sizeable class action, Elon can absolutely leave you in the dust. And probably will.

Musk actively enjoys confrontation and he wins always. He has built the best legal team and none of this will be easy. The storm is here.

High degree. Severance is not a right. Usually just a carrot to get you to sign away right and go away quite. Ole Musky likes confrontation and to save money so no reason to give it.
