Please do yourself a favor. Dont join. You will be in similar position as the current employee end of 2023. There will be continual layoffs throughout 2023 and 2024.

Intel, as far as I know, always honors existing offers.

What happens will depend on the group you were hired into, but based 3 previous instances where this happened on teams I was in, this is what's most likely:

  1. If the group is not planning to reduce employees or your specific job, the offer will stand.
  2. If the group is planning to reduce employees and your specific job would be at risk, you will be given the choice of (A) starting the position, knowing that your job most likely will be eliminated and then taking a severance package if/when it comes, or (B) a buyout to reject the employment offer. The buyout is usually 2 to 3 months of your base salary.
