The daggers are out

Good heavens! Comcast has long been a highly political place, but I've never seen so much scheming and backstabbing among the senior staff and especially the mid-level managers. It's the same jockeying for position and power at all costs, but also a lot of taking out the competition for seats in the lifeboat in the new, smaller, streamlined Comcast.

Retired from CMCSA a few years back and IMO this was inevitable as execs allowed, almost encouraged, teams to build tools with the same functionality. I understand that there are opportunities to sunset old tools with new ones but some of the new teams (typically headed by friends of upper management (EN)) did not understand the customers or the requirements. There is redundancy throughout national.

This only exacerbated by new (and old) tools / naming standards that were extremely difficult to integrate or share data with other tools resulting in multiple teams supporting overlapping functionality. It was great for workers from a job security standpoint but obvious not great for the business.

Comcast laid me off a year ago, and it was a tough experience back then. I can only imagine how much worse the situation has gotten since. I spent nearly 10 years at the company, and I can honestly say that more than half of that time was spent trying to navigate the political landscape and manage the daily absurdities, all just so I could attempt to get my work done if I could figure out what that was. It was harder and harder to determine out what the job actually was since progress was never made, and goals were not real.

We will never know how much of the current environment has been exacerbated by Comcast's efforts to gaslight employees into thinking these mass layoffs wouldn't happen. The atmosphere has been tense for years, with people constantly on edge and overly cautious, which only made it harder to accomplish anything.
