Thread regarding Cengage layoffs

Just wondering…

Do any other current employees enjoy it when they see yet another brilliant coworker find a seat on a lifeboat and join the exodus of capable competent professionals out of this disaster of a company?

It feels weird to be rooting against a company I once respected and admired and feeling satisfied when they lose quality talent. But, then, the company no longer deserves to retain that talent. So as I await my own turn to board a lifeboat, I alleviate my daily dissatisfaction by celebrating my co-workers next steps and delighting in the impact that the gaping holes left in their absence will have on this sinking ship.

That's a hard question. I was one of those incredibly well compensated in the wake of the Hansen invasion. And then I was cut loose, and in rather cynical fashion. I was, in short, used until they no longer had use for me.

Given that experience, it is very easy to root against Cengage. And sure, it is great to read of others who have escaped that sinking ship and thrived. This is balanced by reading of others who were su-ked into the void and who now find themselves wondering when the gig will be up and where they might land...

I was lucky. I remained in this rather glorious industry in a company that is still growing and thriving. I am living a professional life that is akin to those vaunted "glory days" in the modern era. For those who have found their own path out of a post-Cengage career, I feel happy for them. For those still stuck in the void, I have mixed feelings: shame on you for believing the hype, and good luck to you as you try to escape into a better professional life.

As for Cengage itself? Choke on your own toxic fumes, please.

I’d feel a little better being part of this sh&t show if some executives’ heads would roll. Would love to see the mo--nic sales leader axed.

Haha yes. Pizza parties to solve a morale crises! Talk about putting a BandAid over a bullet hole!

Morale is low in Mason, what we need is a pizza party! I’m surprised pizza has not been bought for us in a long while. We have free parking and are constantly reminded of that.

Cengage S#%ks! Used to love working here and now wish I were Horizoned so I’d already be out of my misery. Can’t wait to exit.

I'm always happy to see my co-workers who are doing great work do well. No matter if it's at Cengage or at another company.

Hiring is rough out there. Anyone lucky enough to find a new position should count their blessings.
