Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

For the love of God, lay me off already!

You've proven your point. You've made it a living he-l. I have not returned to office. What the he-l are you waiting for?

If you want to leave, aside from searching for a FTE role, you may want to consider leveraging an existing relationship you have with an ex-Dell leader who is now at another company, into a contracting gig.

I did just that, and am actually now earning almost 80% more as a contactor as I earned as an FTE at Dell. The company I'm contracting for, manages all their contractors thru a huge 3rd party contract admin company called Magnit. I am an hourly W2 employee of Magnit, they issue me a regular paycheck every Friday with all the regular tax withholdings. And they offer a full suite of employee benefits (health insurance, dental, 401k) for anyone who wants them. I fill out a weekly timecard, and they pay me by the hour. Any time over 40 hours in a week I get paid time-and-a-half.

I've never worked as a contractor before but I will tell you - this gig is pretty sweet and I am making more than the VP who hired me. ;-)

Good luck to each of you as you navigate life at Dell.

Job market in Austin is bad in big tech. Put in the work to pivot out of this dying US industry (or US employees). Switch industries and get out the miserable he-l-hole that is Dell. Pretend like you just had your Monday meeting with your manager (reading from the stupid script) and your last day is Friday. Whatever you would do in that scenario to find the next job, start it NOW.

It's hard to go when you have no place to go. The job market is not good.

if you are really waiting for a lay off, why not ask your manager for a package?

It's no secret. They're waiting for you to get so pi---d off that you quit so they don't have to shell out a severance package.
