Thread regarding Optum layoffs

Layoff - Parental Leave

Hi-
In the last year, my team had four positions eliminated, three of them, including mine, were incredibly near some form of parental leave.

  • I was just a few weeks away from going on paternity leave
  • A colleague of mine was days from giving birth
  • Another colleague of mine had just returned from maternity leave

Everyone should know that Optum does pay out its parental leave in the event that someone is laid off.
I was wondering if there are any other stories of teams where multiple positions were impacted very near some form of parental leave?

I bet if someone looked at the % of these layoffs that victimized people over 50
vs the total population, might it look like discrimination against a protected class? 🧐

I am in a similar situation. I don’t want to post much yet until I get the official word, but I was asked if I would be coming back. I was told I would hear from the company. Also, I am only a year and a half from retirement. I have know. So many people over the years over 50 let go.

An unusual percent I’ve seen laid off have had a leave within the year they were cut.

I had two people on my team - one on maternal leave and one getting ready to go on maternity leave that were NOT laid off. In fact those 2 and only 2 others weren’t. All the over 40 higher paid workers were laid off .

Well we’re UHG. Over 50 years old and you’re in the same category. If you are US based, look over your shoulders… Indian employees are eager to take 1/3 of your pay doing 2x “the work” with lots of paper education, certification and credentials. All they need is your knowledge handover and they will fix everything the US employees could not and replace you with AI
