I was recently laid off. During my 8 years at BD I received above average evaluations every single time. Not only was my work on time every single day, but I also took on the additional work from peers that wouldn't meet their timeliness or refused to work hen my manager asked me to. I attended and completed every training or certification I was sent to like Agile and Six Sigma. My last project saved BD 6 millions, so I thought my salary was more than justified. But I got laid off. Meanwhile, some of my peers that barely do their jobs get to stay and some where even promoted. I know with time I will find another job...but it hurts not knowing what I did wrong. It's like BD prefers incompetence and laziness and is even willing to reward it.

The hard truth is that people like you—hardworking, honest, reliable, and always willing to take on anything—rarely move up the ladder like those who know how to play the game. At BD, it’s all about office politics. Sneaky Chad will always get promoted because he knows how to work the system. It su-ks to see what this place has turned into and what it takes to get ahead.
I was also laid off back in 2024. I can tell you that you're right, it hurts emotionally, and the knee je-k reaction is to blame yourself. What I learned from my experience is that it's very likely, and based on your post I dare to say, that you did nothing wrong. Although hard, try to understand that this was BD leadership just being themselves. I will not lie to you, the current job market is tough, and finding your next opportunity might take sometime. But you will eventually find another job where they will appreciate you and your skills. It took me a while to find my next job and I can tell you that the pleasant work environment alone made me look at getting laid off as one of the most positive things to happen in my career. There is life after BD, and it seems is a very calm and exciting one. Stay strong, and good luck. Your best opportunity ever is around the corner!
Nothing u can do this is what employment at will is unfortunately they can decide to part ways whenever they want for whatever reason they want they will always find a way out if they want to and you can also leave whenever you want. Does it make sense thst you’re performing well and others less competent are getting away with little work no it doesn’t but again this is prominent at bd unfortunately somehow we have been cursed with poor leadership the last decade or so. It comes from the top down and it’s pretty difficult to fix at one level.
There is nothing to learn from this. You know who you are. Take a break and then move on.
So sorry this happened to you. Sadly I see this happening a lot in BD particular some of the marketing folks in BDB. It amazes me how little they do and if they do something it's sloppy and not well executed. Somehow they have been promoted…. without showing any results.
