Thread regarding Broadcom Corp. layoffs

Prague / MSD / Change of clima

Is here somebody from Prague? It seems to me that the clima in the office has changed significantly over the past year. Much less stocks, layoffs, functional and product managers doing job of multiple people, reduction of scrum masters, hiring freeze, all decisions made in the US, minimum promotions, insufficient parking places ...

Total BS from this "I'm involved at a high level" liar trying to scare you. You think a giant company actually makes plans based on "natural attrition"? yeah, let's just hope hundreds of people leave within the next couple of years - great exec plan lol. Prague is a mainframe office - and mainframe _has no office in India_ to hire in, so 2 points prove this is bogus from this poster. Prague isn't on any chopping block whatsoever, believe that.

I'm involved in resourcing discussions at a high level. From what I know, the plan is to focus staffing efforts in India over the next two years and essentially "sunset" the Prague campus as natural attrition takes effect. While I don't think the plan is to close down the entire site right now, all discussions seem to point in that direction over the following several years. Timelines are always subject to change.

Take this info as you will, but if I were in Prague I would start looking to jump ship.

You're fine in Prague - you have mainframe skills from the soviet block days and are cheaper than Americans. Once the tail starts wagging the dog too much is your real worry - 'we should make & get as much as they do in US' and as that happens your value to this very US-based company disappears. Ask India.

MSD wants the jobs in US. Expensive to have foreign office and bad time zone.

It’s painful to layoff people in Europe. The strategy is to make your quit yourself.
