Thread regarding Macy's Inc. layoffs

forced joy = hospitality?

I saw a video on "forced joy," and it felt eerily similar to our new "hospitality" policy. Macy's isn't clear on how we should be more hospitable, so instead of giving clear instructions, they want us to provide examples in meetings. It's like their dress code—vague, with broad guidelines like "own your style" and some soft descriptions and pictures, but nothing specific. They wanted us to post on the "Work Proud" app, which feels pointless. While the intent might be to boost morale, if ur requiring me to use my phone at work, doesn't that contradict the concept of hospitality? I'm already on the floor non-stop because we don't have enough staff, despite being "fully staffed." Emotional labor for a "hospitable experience" feels dystopian. How about a 4-day workweek, more pay, and respect? Yes, please!

The customer doesn't care that the Costco designer stuff may be not the same quality as Macy's. They only care about price and that it's branded. They're buying price and logos.

The designer items u see at Costco are not the same as Macy's. Still the same name but a lot cheaper fabrics, not the same design, and are likely made especially for Costco.
No more Kors at Costco

One way to turn this sinking ship around might be to hire a marketing company and spend the money to rebrand the company. Make us relevant. We need a PR campaign. Then better buyers. More visual support. Better managers that coach, instead of berating colleagues over things like credit and bronze.

Overpriced junk.
Messy
0 hospitality
Their new merch is discounted at Nordstrom Rack. The staff at the registers take their time promoting their hobbies instead of ringing customers up. The staff on floor are hiding in the stockrooms and dressing rooms while therez racks on racks of go-backs that needs to be put away. Ya Macys Roseville I'm talking about you.

Hospitality means NOTHING when you sell garbage. How about focusing more on selling quality brands and merchandise that people will want and buy. Do this and your margins will be better than slashing most of what’s offered now. Having Bloomies type treatment of customers does not matter with what we have to sell with discounts or give always on Last Act racks and tables for $0.20 to $0.40 on the dollar.

The Hospitality gimmick will be long forgotten and dead by Hoilday ‘25.

Macy's merch is so mid, overpriced, and outdated.

Why are you even working there at all?
