Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

Layoffs and RTO are not our only problems

One of the worst things is how overworking gets put on a pedestal until Dell is the only thing left in your life. If you can mold yourself into that routine, great, you’ll fit right in. But if you want anything resembling balance, good luck. It’s like the system is built to make sure you don’t.

I think a lot of the DOGE kids believe they are doing the right thing. (Except for a few who post on SM about what je-ks they are.)
I’m sure they are bright and enthusiastic. Unfortunately I think that DT and EM view them as useful id--ts. They are being exploited like all those college kids who think ‘From the river to the sea” is a poetic metaphor and not an agenda.

After being laid off from a firm that like to call employees family, where I would routinely work 50 - 60 hours a week, I came to work here.

I made sure to do as much as I could in 40 hours. I would be cheerful and respectful of my colleagues. I have also avoided getting close to anyone. After a long time here, I see maybe two or three people from work socially.
Why do I avoid connections? Because after my first layoff, my ‘family’ disappeared. A few polite phone calls or get togethers that became few and far between.

A side benefit - I can be certain that every raise and promotion I’ve had has been earned and not because I played golf or pickleball with influential people. (I don’t golf and pickleball is repugnant.)

I have a friend who has a great saying. “Look around at the dinner table. Those are the people you work for.” It may sound even more profound in his native language.

"like those DOGE Kids who are ransacked the US Government"
When thinking of the US Gov, I recall the immortal words of Jeremy Burton at EMC World 2012 regarding Dell... it's a dead stinking bloated whale.
Go Elon and DOGE kids!

This requires kids out of college who don't know any better and don't have anything better to do with their time. It's like those DOGE Kids who are ransacked the US Government. It might be fun now but you spend the rest of your life with regret and guilt.

Yeah. Working for a company with zero actual innovation is a bigger problem in the long run
