Thread regarding BP PLC layoffs

They operate on the assumption that you're Pavlov's dog

The pending layoffs truly create a toxic work environment. The sad reality is that bp has no consideration for what it does to the staff by constantly rolling out these "reorganizations." They operate on the assumption that you're Pavlov's dog where they crack the whip and you'll go running to them. As for me, each one of these have caused me to confine to myself and I stop collaborating. Certainly, the talks around the office will be about "what rumors" each of us have heard. One year, things go so bad that we went without any kind of performance evaluations (for those who were not fired). They said everyone will get an "averaged" rating. Totally sad. It was their way of saying that you'll accept the outcome because out of their generosity, you're still here.

Still relevant, an excellent point by @bb+1jj9rx3me.

Lol what? You’ve never heard of ‘Projects’ in bp?? If you don’t know what function that is then you must work in a petrol station or something?

Projects has some significant cuts happening in 1H2025. We don’t know headcount figures from management, but 15% of the projects org is a good guess. You’re right that a lot of people in projects don’t know how to work in a cost efficient manner.

I see alot of people on here happy about what Elliott Management is doing but they are Vulture Capitalist and his foot in the door on the Board... will cause much more layoffs. Paul Singer the owner is a leader in the industry for the cruel vulture tendencies, The King of Layoffs as he is called.... You might like him giving it to MA and others but be careful what you wish for.

And they never touch the projects team, which is a black hole of waste and incompetence, almost like a "po-p Midas" that turns everything it touches to sh-t without consequence. Fire that whole group before anything else.

I completely agree with you. It's the psychology of it all. If you're all told that some of you will be fired, everyone gets in line and there won't be any more disrespecting of BP. Then on that fateful day, you're retained. You become this compliant employee, willing to swallow all of the execrement sandwiches. You'll toe the company line. Each time after the layoffs and transformations, you'll be told that the company has been "right-sized" and they have this amazing strategy that is fit for purpose of turning this ship around. If they still don't get the performance they're looking for because they executed a wrong strategy, then it's back to culling the herd. Yes, I also agree with you about my attitude. I stayed in my office. I also refused to ask people to speculate because in the end, they don't even know. I also remembered one year we were all told that they didn't have time for a performance evaluation, and that you should be grateful you're getting an averaged raise. So, as the saying goes, "the beatings will continue until the morale improves."
