Thread regarding Fossil Inc. layoffs

Baffled

No wonder the company is failing. The long line of bad ideas can only pile up so long. Who thought a Minecraft line would do well? A "creeper" bracelet? wtf. What hard working adult would pay for this? Im confused.

I didn't say a collab with Burberry and Fossil. I pointed out that Burberry did a Minecraft collab that did well for them and that I think Fossil was emulating it. Or trying to.

Burberry colab? But Burberry dumped Fossil when they got out of the accessories business!

The collabs aren't going to prevent any of that. That problem is way above the products being made.

Good thing this collab was so successful! Unfortunately, not having an impact on the stock price. Unless there is something that is going to drive the brand or fashion watch business across all brands, don’t expect theses collabs or the award winning ring watch to keep people from losing their jobs or more store closures.

Burberry did a Minecraft collab and that seemed to do pretty well. That might be where Fossil's idea came from.

Fossil's stuff is, at least, a little more creative than what Burberry did.

The issue is there is too wide a range for audience. Gen Z and Gen Alpha are the target audience for Minecraft with some millennials. However only millennials can afford Fossil prices. Make up your mind fossil. You can’t please boomers and millennials at the same time.

Another thing I forgot about.

Check out the resell market for the Fossil watches made for Pokemon. They couldn't be sold on Fossil's website (Pokemon Company pretty much has products locked down to their site) but they are Fossil branded items. Some of them even resell for over a thousand dollars now.

To be fair, nerdy accessories and jewelry can sell in crazy amounts and for crazy high dollars, if it's done right.

Look up any collab with Square Enix for Final Fantasy XIV. Fender did a limited edition Stratocaster for the game that went for $3500 and sold out almost instantly.

In Japan, Citizen had a collab with them for watches that went for about $300 each after conversion. Again, they sold out quickly. If you want one now, you'll expect to pay anywhere between $400 and $600 if it's a complete set.

Depending on the game, you may run into a fanbase that's not just extensive, but also wealthy and willing to spend their wealth on merchandise for the game.

Glossing over the fact that we sold out of the Minecraft watches super quickly lol

And the way ML goes on and on about the success of these collabs, you would expect the overall business to be/get better. Where is the “brand heat” that these are supposed to bring? Still waiting for the rebranding strategy to kick in.

They need to streamline these launches, the main watch sold out in two weeks, but agree, who is buying that $85 bracelet? It should have just been the watches.
