I have heard 1% cuts with most groups unaffected

What I heard came from a director who always spills the beans. He knows exactly how many and who already.
paraphrasing enough to hide my identity from my manager - in a workshop of sorts - I noted the following said over the course of 90 minutes:
"We haven't transformed with the rest of Dell so at some point it will be our turn"
"plan for being leaner sooner rather than later"
"Modern Dell really hasn't kicked into high gear"
"don't bite too much off because we need to make sure we have enough resource to meet commitments"
"...always have resumes up to date"
"best to keep your finger on the pulse of the job market"
"Let's prove our value before its too late"
Take this FWIW
The way I always "heard" about stuff like this was by being friends with a Director or Senior Director. They would hear something from a senior exec in a 1 on 1 or planning meeting and share the information. I do feel like specific numbers are not likely to be leaked or spoken about casually..Everything I heard was broad strokes like , big WFR this time because they are targeting X% offshore or something.

How do people “hear” about numbers this far out? Seems 100% speculation unless we truly have VPs who can’t keep their mouth shut. Like what level org already knows they’re losing 9 people in a few weeks?
