Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

Anyone know what happens after your mgr submits an RTO exception for you?

Just curious to know if anyone knows what happens. I know a few people who's manager has submitted exceptions based on distance, medical, or whatever.

Well, based on what I've heard it's the 3rd Prize..."As you all know, first prize is a Cadillac El Dorado. Second prize is a set of steak knives. Third prize is you're fired."

HR wants to know how they can accommodate you into the office.

Maybe it's different if the manager submits the exception request FOR you; but that wasn't the process I followed. (Maybe the process is different for different orgs or regions?)

  1. After discussing my situation with my manager, I submitted a case with HR for a medical exception. There is an option to upload documentation at this stage, but I was advised by HR that it wasn't required. (But it's probably best to have documentation on hand in case you are asked about it, or in case that is specific to my country.)
  2. HR reached out to schedule an interview with me to discuss 1x1. This was about 2 weeks after my request was submitted.
  3. HR then reached out to my manager to discuss and confirm their approval. This took another few days.
  4. 5 - It's possible some higher-level approvals were sought, maybe via email; if so, I wasn't made aware.
  5. They switched my status back to remote.

Pretty straightforward. Best of luck to you.

I don't have firsthand knowledge but a friend of mine got one approved. It too about 8 weeks and lots of questioning from HR/Upper management. He told me in the end it was approved because he was able to prove that there's no housing within an hour of the office that he can afford with what Dell is willing to pay.
