Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

DEI only promotions?

So it looks like this 10/11 promo cycle may only be an out of cycle DEI promo, yet again. Seems like the ELT is upset at the idea that DEI might have to be rebranded in order to continue due to the current administration.

Basically - the only folks I know that have received a raise/promo have been of a certain ethnic origin. Seems like racism is alive and well still at Cisco

It is going be failed work culture very soon.

As a customer for more than the past 30 years it's been a failed work culture the entire time. The sad part is most are too incompetent to know how incompetent they are.

I'm not sure what Cisco hopes to achieve by implementing DEI-based hiring or promotions. It seems that promotions are being given based solely on gender, rather than rewarding engineers for their performance. This approach does not seem motivating. I have noticed many talented male engineers leaving the team because they feel neglected. In some cases, even less capable female engineers with significantly lower contributions have been promoted. I am unsure how the company expects to achieve high growth and better outcomes if it does not reward actual talent and instead focuses primarily on gender-based recognition. It is going be failed work culture very soon.

When you apply for a job and it gives you the little 5 question thing asking about your gender race military service and disabilities just answer as mexican and non binary and you will get all the calls. When I hired in here I put "prefer not to answer" on s-x and got a call about a hour later.

Impossible to prove DEI used for promotion since they sprinkle in a white straight guy every now & then. Best you can do is vote with your feet.

LOL, no. My co-worker in CX Delivery... WHO is on a PIP, is an older white male and even HE got the 11-to-12 pay upgrade.

I was told it’s nearly impossible to make it to grade 12 in my group unless you are DEI so I left… life is much better in the outside!

Is morale that bad (I mean, worse than normal) or are we heading for some major layoffs soon and they're preemptively helping morale?

this will be an unpopular opinion, but i hope its the second. because otherwise surely morale anywhere outside CX is going to drop afterwards. you only have to look at the "how do i get G12?" thread on here from a couple of days ago

I’m not talking about the typically expected stuff, such as 8+ years at grade 11, consistent high/over performer with track record of very good reviews, and high visibility both internally and with customers

imagine going through all of that and still your not in G12 position to see that someone in CX just gets handed it on a plate when the criteria is as low as "managed to not get fired for 1 year"

It's literally happening to everyone. Your manager lied to you to stir the pot bc (s)he's racist. I'm more worried why they're giving everyone a raise. Is morale that bad (I mean, worse than normal) or are we heading for some major layoffs soon and they're preemptively helping morale? It's hard to see this as just positive.

As bad as the dei nonsense is at cisco, this round of raises has zero to do with it. It is the generic idiocy of the ELT instead generating the next round of layoff candidates.

Equal Opportunity for all, yes.

In your own words, "That's not how real life works." Forces have been preventing this for far longer than there has been a United States and unless an equal and opposite force is applied to balance opportunity the only option to make things not completely one sided is to abuse both sides until people grow up, but the US is becoming more infantile by the day.

Meanwhile she does the least work on the team objectively measured.

If you're in software and you're using the dashboards as meaningful objective measurements you're bottom 5% even at Cisco. When the vast amount of code checked in was broken and failing to fix it was eating the vast majority of the development budget a large percentage were performing worse than deadwood, and I'd bet all of them would regale you with tales of their triumphs.

My manager actually told me lat pay cycle he had to give raises to a female before anyone else because of equity. Meanwhile she does the least work on the team objectively measured.

Go woke, go broke.

DEI ways of operating only end up in failure.

Equal Opportunity for all, yes.
Equal outcomes, no.

Everyone isn't a winner.
