Thread regarding Optum layoffs

So do most think that all of optum is eventually doomed?

And that everyone under optum will eventually be let go at some point? I can’t decide if I want to job hunt or not. Better to look while you still have a job and are not desperate yet I suppose. The other part is me just hopes I’ll never get let go, and I will be with optum 15 more years lol….. probably very unlikely and wishful thinking….

Yes, it doesn’t seem to matter how much quality has dropped. They will skew the numbers in favor of offshoring just like they’re skewing the numbers with AI efficiency gains. The help desk is the most blatant example of terrible and visible offshoring. That has been a complete disaster to all the actual engineering teams. However, the downstream impact isn’t measured. They don’t care if all the tickets just go to higher cost Software Engineers. The only metric they see is cost savings on the individual help desk employee.

This example can be seen in almost every area around Optum. Skewing the numbers in favor of offshoring until it is too late to reverse course.

This company is going down the drain and it’s ver unfortunate to watch it happen.

The company should be pretty close to divesting.

The entire United HealthGroup is going under. Fortunately, some restricted groups MUST stay onshore, it's written on their contracts. So all non-restricted work will be moved offshore, which is the reason for the cuts.

Business will also go offshore, so… we’re on our own on this topic.

Considering the continuously failed rollouts of OHCID, they are getting what they paid for by going offshore. Who knows, maybe the 6th time is the charm, and it works. I don't understand why business is not screaming at tech to quit with the full offshore push. Perhaps they like the lower rates, and can live with the cr-p NPS scores that are coming.

Unless you're expecting to ascend the ranks or make regular lateral moves that come w salary increases you should probably look. Even exceeds performers lose major ground to inflation.

I would recommend looking for another job, even if it’s just to see what’s out there…
