I'd like to avoid generalizing, but it seems to me that there are no good managers at UP anymore, those who lead by example, who bring out the best in people, who actually care about the company, employees and customers. I wish someone would tell me that they have a really good manager.

I think I know the manager your talking about and yes he is a good guy, always has been. I would say in my opinion 90% of managers are ignorant totalitarian power hungry as-----s and the other 10% are there to make a better living for their families and sleep well at night knowing they can be a boss without being a tyrant or puppet for the company.
There are good and bad managers, just like there are good and bad craft employees. It’s impossible to generalize about any group. You just hope you are surrounded by good people, both management and union.
My newest manager is the best we’ve had so far. He is calm and easy going. If you ask him a question and he doesnt know it he will find someone who does know the answer. (might be a few days but he’ll get you an answer) He isnt angry all the time or panicky. He has no issue giving his boss bad news and his boss freaking out has no affect on him. Its like he isnt a d!ck and d!cks have no effect on him either.
