Intel Needs a Shock to the System to Cure the Cancer of Complacency that has Metastasized

The old culture of Intel was dismantled by Andy Bryant and BK... and has continued for the past 13 years. Appointing AB as Chairman of BOD (2012) was the beginning of the end... putting a financially incompetent, non-technical, mumbling, chairman with zero non-Intel experience was like related parents having twins which married and had kids and picked new and promoted employees based on a DEI quota checklist vs intelligence and merit, which further in-bred over the next decade plus. What Lip But Tan needs to do is flush out the sickness in the system, while trying to keep the best of the best, and inject new blood to cure the cancer of DEI and complacency. Intel DEI efforts has become DIE for Intel.

@cn+1jp9gk0kj The problem may indeed be DEI quotas... when the quota is 100% DEI hires and promotions until they reach some impossible mystical target goal of population parity. How likely is it to hit 50% goal for women in technical, and technical leadership? How likely is it to hit 50% goal for URM (under represented minorities... aka, non-white or Asian males) for technical roles? Intel keeps hiring any talent because any team leader/manager should contribute to their VPs DEI goals, or otherwise, their promotion is going to be very difficult since the VP must hit their DEI goals for a bonus target. That's also part of the sickness... setting goals that don't directly impact product performance, execution and profitability.

The problem is not DEI, it's DEI quotas. Hire and promote on merit only, regardless of anything else.

The system is completely broken. Many individuals are more dedicated and engaged with their ERG than their actual job function, and they are often rewarded for their political efforts rather than for their professional performance, placing them ahead of their peers. We are rewarding the wrong things and shedding true talent for false ideals.

OP, I couldn’t agree more with what you said. I sure hope it happens for those who still care about the company, it sounds like you care.
