Thread regarding 3M layoffs

Vacation days / years served

Do you get an increase of 1 week vacation into your 10th year of service or after your 10th year of service depending on what month of the year you started.

ie: If you started July 2017; would you get your extra week vacation added in January 2027 or pro-rated in July 2027 or Jan 2028?

Kicks in at the start of the year. Say I was hired in November, my extra week would be added in January of the year I would reach 5 yrs for example.

Su-ks for January hires like me though

Current vacation policy: Less than 5 years service = 3 weeks; 5-14 years = 4 weeks; and 15+ years = 5 weeks. A new hire can get for "years of relevant experience", but this item is negotiable.

To clarify - if you started mid-career at 3M and were given, say 4 weeks vacation, based on your years of work history, you DO NOT get the extra week (ie 5 weeks) at year 10. You don't get 5 weeks until you hit the time for 5 weeks (which used to be 19yrs - as I am not at 3M anymore, I'm not sure if that is still the timing). So this is something to negotiate when you join a new company!

In May, 2020 3M HR published a document titled "Vacation Policy FAQs". One of the FAQs is as follows:

Q: I reach my ten-year service anniversary with 3M in August. When will I get my extra week of vacation?

A: Your Annual Vacation Hours included your extra week of vacation at the beginning of the year, so it is available for use beginning in January of your anniversary year.

This document had the following disclaimer:
For eligible non-union regular full-time or part-time employees who do not live in or are not assigned to a work location in California, Colorado, Maryland, Montana, or Nebraska. The information below provides guidance on vacation time and may or may not apply to personal leave time, depending on location.

Might be 10 years a certain number of months, but WFH days can help.

After 25 years you get laid off so that’ll be something to look forward to!😂

I don’t know but back when I contracted at 3M the contracting firm gave you one week after a year and two weeks after 75 years.
