Hearing this from multiple high up sources. They are planning for something that is coming up soon. They will do it in multiple layoff waves and the goal is to be at a certain number by late fall which means a strong chance that they will start sometime soon.
The "dashboard" that they have been implementing will be used to as a tool to circle out the targets to "terminate". This together with the way territories and assignments have been designed have already made it easier for them to do what they are planning.
The goal is to have a smaller group of people do the job of the existing team in consolidated regions. Roles will be different, coverage will be different, compensation will be different.
