Good strategy by TSMC executives by forming the JV with other big tech companies so Intel cannot compete head to head with them and have to beat other big tech too which is impossible financially. This way they can know the truth progress of 18A node to act accordingly.

Intel just announced that its 18A is doing OK. But why it has to JV with other companies?

Which one is the lie? Or both are lies. Apparently both are lies! Read that Reuter's article, read the wording there, it is fake.

TSMC can not run factories in US to manufacture chips for military. All employees and technicians must be US citizen in order to run the manufacturing line in factory for government, this is the enforced security rule by government.

NVDA and AMD are all Intel's competitors, they will not join JV with Intel. This is just the very basic of running business.

Did Intel CEO just said in all-hands meeting that no TSMC?

Why Intel news come from different social media each time? Never from the same media? This is because it is fake news.

The previous fake news is still spreading in YouTube. Now a new one is coming. LOL.

Fake news! Intel stock will drop again in a few days after people find out it is a rumor.

It's unlikely that Taiwan will ever give TSMC permission to run leading edge fabs in the US, as that is contrary to their national security (as they perceive it to be).

So owning 49% of a JV, along with their existing customers, makes sense as a way to produce leading node in the US. It may be the only way they can achieve that.

TD would be greatly reduced, unless the former Intel US fabs were also not permitted to get their technology from TSMCs existing R&D group.

They have also made it clear they only want the EUV fabs, so something would almost certainly happen to the older fabs. Maybe Intel retains them, then eventually sells them.

Another wrinkle out of the latest rumors is that Intel board is apparently not keen on selling Products or Design capabilities, but that may be part of the strategic disagreement going on at the executive level.

Wouldn't be surprised to see Apple get involved as well.

Not fake news but not all C suite is onboard for this either, so even if it is proposed by TSMC, it may not happen. Ron Caufield as CEO might be tied up with this as well.

It would lead to a substantial restructuring of the fabs, with TSMC centralizing many functions, starting with Yield (which includes Def Met).

IFS was already moving in that direction but TSMC would take it further.

They know how to run a fab and IFS still has a lot of IDM baggage to shed.

The Non-EUV fabs would likely be sold to other foundries, because TSMC has all the lagging node facilities needed. They could let them run out the existing roadmaps and then mothball them. Makes little sense to convert them to EUV.

Maybe TSMC sniffed out that 18A is showing promise and they want in early and then claim that they helped deliver it?

TSMC has promised 100B to invest in its new fabs in AZ. This is true.

Other news are fake, Intel play “news” tricks every a few weeks to bump up its stock. Like all lies inside the company as part of the culture, Intel news is full of lies.

@ap... this is a proposal for a joint venture involving all of these companies so TSMC would never own over 50% of IFS so a minority share. If this goes through Intel would probably cease to exist in a pretty short time frame. This would be the fastest way to ramp up TSMC capacity in the US but it would also be the US giving up its own process technology development. I see that as a big risk going forward.

The design side will be splitted into three among AMD, Nvidia and Broadcom. This seems to be a difficult thing to realize. The IFS which is the vital part of the whole deal still 100% go to the foreign company TSMC. Does this eliminate the worry in people's mind? Why does TSMC want to put in effort to line up with so many partners to push this deal through? It is weird and smells fishy.

If this were to go through it would effectively be the split people have been speculating. TSMC would be running the IFS operation which would mean huge changes for current employees and likely massive layoffs. The product side of the company would see major changes too. In any scenario there will likely be massive reductions in headcount. This is not a good time to be looking for a job. You don't want to see this happen. The people who will survive the layoffs in foundry will be working sweatshop conditions.
