Thread regarding Citigroup Inc. / Citibank / Citi layoffs

A rare but classic move.

Keeping it short as there is no need to give a back story. A manager told a friend of mine “if anyone doesn’t like this, they can leave”. My friend started interviewing and in less than two weeks, found another job. Basically “challenge accepted”. While they could give a 1 second notice, they are taking the high road and are giving their two week notice.

Just because, it does normally takes a very long time to find another job, does not mean that it always takes a very long time. They took that step and lo and behold, hit a position.

OP here. This is the last followup posting I’ll be doing on this. I followed up with my buddy to see if, for now, it was all it was that and a bag of chips or not. The breakdown so far for them has been….

There’s enough to keep you busy but not overwhelmed. No surprise responsibilities or tasks. Work from home mostly. So far, no work past an 8 hour day and no weekend work expected.

So, for them it seems like they landed well but in my opinion, landed better since there’s no expectation of monster hours to put in. I’m very happy for them.

Don’t even tell them, just disappear, that the biggest shock to the boss.

OP here. Yeah, I knew this was coming. LOL.
Nope, they got a position at another bank. I get it though, there’s comfort in saying “it’ll do no good to even try, the deck is stacked against me. This is as good as it ever gets.”
rather than trying, possibly failing and being rejected. Some people don’t want to risk the possibility of rejection. It makes you feel better, why chance it, right?

Its true, you very well may be rejected for a long time. I can though guarantee you 100% that you’ll never get another position if you never try. Some people are comfortable with the status quo, then stack it with the already mentioned “its hard to find something, it takes too long” so, they reserve themselves with self shackling to Citi. They feel comfortable with servitude under the wings of the dragon. The evil you know, right?

Then there’s the jealously factor. Some have tried and have been rejected many many times. Then there’s this guy saying someone else found something in a few weeks, impossible. I would know because I looked every where and knocked on every door. It must be a lie. Again, I get it. Makes you feel better to say its not true vs the fact that it is.

Rather than being happy for them and looking at it as an example of what is possible, its just easier to throw rocks and naysay. Safer that way and it negates that rejection and self loathing for not even trying. Whatever gets you through the day man.

You do not have to give a two notice at all. Just like Citi does not have to give you a two week notice before they let you go.
