Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

Is RTO as an attrition strategy working?

I can imagine it’s not going according to the leadership’s hopes and dreams. The tech job market is so bad right now that the vast majority of people are just trying to keep their jobs. I’m one of them. The problem is, the fewer people who quit or can't comply, the more of us will end up on the chopping block later.

Like any "strategy" MD & JC come up with/cut & paste fails. Just let me get on with it and keep taking the cheques

To be clear, the RTO as a soft layoff strategy is being done for the following reasons

  1. No hassles from the states involved because unemployment claims not involved
  2. No severance packages need be paid
  3. No discrimination lawsuits since the RTO applies to everyone, even medical exemptions are being denied.

Many people are waiting for the bonuses to hit before leaving the company.

No. It’s not forcing attrition at all. In fact what it’s forcing is people digging in, barely doing their job and then leaving early.

Learn skills you can use outside of the tech vertical. There are jobs out there, especially in metro areas that are struggling getting people into offices. There are also many software companies still remote. Use your network as well.

All they have to do is offer a package to those that would take it. They just have to ask, they'll get takers.

Worked for me! I left last year. Market is tough but I managed better pay and title. Stay with it and find the right fit, if you've got the chops you'll find a way.
