If you go back to when Dell started its acquisition kick you can see that letting the acquired companies/products wither and die is nothing new. It has forever been that way. This is the inevitable result of an R&D-lite company.

Ultimately, MD Serves the shareholders. And many large bloc investors are displeased with halving of the stock value in the past year. Yes he does hold a large percentage of the stock but if other investors band together he could be replaced by the BOD. Unlikely but it could happen
