Boeing got a concession from SPEEA so that years of service no longer guaranteed a higher retention rating so they could target the older workers who are also the highest paid for layoffs. Now there’s absolutely no incentive to put in years of service at Boeing. The irony is the company pretends it doesn’t understand why the employees don’t stay long. Look at how you treat your older workers and decide if that’s a company you want to stay at long-term.
Another point regarding VLO's. VLO's are the RIF mechanism that boeing uses to cull the herd of senior members because it overrides the seniority & retention restraints that are built in to the normal RIF / ILO process. Only folks close to retirement age are ever approached by management to apply for the VLO when one is offered prior to the commencement of a full on RIF. You have to formally apply for the VLO and be accepted. In all my time at boeing I have NEVER heard of anyone under 50 EVER being accepted for a VLO. Everyone can apply for the VLO but only the 50 and above crowd are ever accepted. So let's stop the Golden VLO Talk because it is only for a chosen few.
Yeah, back when I was manager there we would ask our people who wanted to leave and adjust the totems so they would get the better involuntary layoff terms. Often it was the best people who wanted to leave and we made it happen.
2 items to consider. Boeing will not pay you for Christmas Holiday pay THEN lay you off. They will lay you off BEFORE having to pay you Christmas Holiday pay. At this late date, the end of October, they do not have 60 days left to lay you off with a WARN. That ship has sailed for 2022 and there won't be any warns issued till Mar - Apr 2023 at the earliest.
2nd point to consider is that ILO's, Involuntary Layoffs, outnumber VLO's 5 to 1 and normally are only offered once at the very beginning of a reduction exercise if at all. Look for ILO's and not VLO's to happen primarily because it puts who gets laid off in the power of Boeing and not you the employee. VLO's only happen rarely and you get 2 to 3 weeks notice before you terminate and NOT 60 days. I do not get why some readers think a VLO is better than an ILO. The only plus in a VLO is that you get to leave on YOUR terms when YOU want to and not boeing's.
I think Mainly on the tanker and Air Force 1 where they are hemorrhaging money. Hurry up and get that done so we can lay you off. Terrible company to work for. Change careers if you can.
All I see is the next generation of kids on there phones that don’t want to work. Glad I’m on my way out. Boeing in big trouble. Once great company going down the toilet. Most managers have no clue. Blind leading the blind.
It needs to happen. To much dead weight around here. We aren’t going up in rate like we keep hearing. Can’t even get the stuff out now. Down fall right in front of our eyes.
Ah yes but first comes a VLO.
