Thread regarding Optum layoffs

Optum is no longer employer of choice it is a destroyer …

I used to be proud to work for this company. Now I’m waiting for my turn for Rif and severance. Companies don’t even ask why you are looking to leave when they see Optum on resume

3/28/25 hasn't happened yet and both individuals below have left the company. Make it make sense.

Hogwash. If you were eligible for 2024 bonus and were still employed on 3/28/25 when the bonus checks were cut you got paid. So either you were not on the books as of bonus payout or you were never getting a bonus in the first place. The 40% lump sum on severance is dictated by the IRS not by the company wake up.

This company lacks morals. I worked here almost 4 years as a high performer. Always received positive manager reviews. Was affected by "downsizing" recently. Did receive severance (which was laughable due to the 40% taxes taken out - be prepared for that) ALSO WORTH NOTING THAT EVEN THOUGH YOU WORKED FULL TIME AND CONTRIBUTED TO PREVIOUS QUARTER PERFORMANCE BASED METRIC, WHICH NORMALLY ENTITLES YOU TO A BONUS - THEY WILL NOT PAY YOU FOR THIS SINCE YOU ARE NO LONGER EMPLOYED BY THEM ON THE PAYOUT DATE THAT HAPPENS MONTHS LATER. DISGUSTING. BE WARNED.

In 2018 I started working for a small chain of mental health clinics as an independent contractor. I signed a simple and fair contract. Later my clinic was bought by Refresh, Refresh was bought by Optum, Optum was owned by UnitedHealth Group. I didn't pay too much attention to all the M&A, except for the new electronic health record Optum required us to switch to - Athena was a dog to use. Then in September of 2024 Optum published a contract all employees were required to sign. The contract ran 13.5 pages single spaced plus exhibits and put the employee in a big hole if Optum so desired. I was fortunate to be in a position where I didn't need Optum's job so I didn't sign their contract.

I quit United healthcare after years, effective February 2025 (this February). One of my doctors switched over to Optum. I I found out they were United healthcare so my caution signs went up and I started looking for a new doctor and I was right… They made a mistake on my billing. I called them Between five and seven times and they never called me back. They wouldn't call me back and it didn't sound like the people in the office were very aware of how to get in touch with them except just to give me the number to leave a message that they wouldn't call back.

I don't trust United healthcare I don't trust optimum and they're terrible for the doctors too. I feel very sorry for my doctor. They don't pay them on time and then give them the opportunity to get a loan on their salary. ( for a cost) This is just a rumor. I don't know that's for sure.
I quit United healthcare because I'm 75 and I don't trust them at all to take care of me if I get sick

That was no hack they left the door propped open with a rock so of course a passer by is going to take a look and walk right in and do a smash and grab

optum/ingenix has never been the employer of choice. It is a check that is all. Any public traded company is not out for employee or customer. Been that way forever and will continue in the future

I retired last year right after they took over the company I worked for. I knew something was going down big. Then the company files got hacked and it went down hill since then. I feel bad for my ex coworkers who are dealing with job loss now.

There’s also people posting articles complaining that the public is mad because they don’t understand how health insurance works 😱

(Recovering from laughing so hard at your comment!) people honestly believe Optum is invested in their growth?!?! Were you serious with that comment? That has to be the funniest thing I have heard in a long time. Thanks for the laugh on a Monday!!

With all due respect, Optum's reputation is not very good, i.e., pretty bad, in the marketplace....go someplace you can feel proud to be making a difference.

I know, same here. I am actively looking for other jobs just in case a RIF comes. Which department are you in? I am in home and community.
