Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

Quit or Wait?

At 60 and fed up, not sure if I should just call it quits after the bonus or hang on a few months for a possible layoff? If I do leave, my position will only be opened up in India so I'm not really taking a position away from a US worker.

Use some common sense instead of emotion and wait for the layoff and get the severance and COBRA. If you are having problems getting through the day take something to deaden your emotions until the layoff. You can thank me later.

In this economy, wait until they fire you. Trump is running the economy into the ground so at 60 there is little chance of getting another job.

First - to @aj+1jntstrzh, 60 is not a boomer. According to generally accepted people who make up this cr-p, 60 makes him a GenXer.
Second - age doesn’t matter, I’ve seen older and younger colleagues feel the burnout.

Finally - to the OP. Wait it out if you can or when you have a great offer in hand. I know a couple of people who retired only to find out they would have been near the top of the layoff list.
We won’t know for a couple of month whether this soft layoff (RTO) will meet the goal the company wants - so ultimately you’ll have to go with your gut.

Life’s too short.

A few years ago in March, after I received my bonus, I was asked by my manager what my plans were for the coming year. I told him my plans didn’t include Dell, and gave my notice.

Retirement is as good as the plans you make for it.

I occasionally go on this website or ping old workmates to confirm I made the right decision.

Wait it out. Do the least amount you need to.

Great point about waiting to be laid off in order to collect unemployment, too. Loving it.

April layoffs are a fact and are going to happen, did you notice the topic of "namelist"
and having client tools installed on your laptop disappear? The only reason it disappeared is because it is true and someone has privilages to remove posts if they choice

Wait and get a severance package. It's a nice financial cushion to have.

If you have a good relationship with your leadership then ask to be put on the list - I know people who have done this and have been able to go on their terms and with a package.
