401k rollover after severance?

Does anyone know if Apache allows you to keep your 401k funds in their retirement fund within Fidelity or should we rollover to IRA?

You will have more investment options and cheaper costs if you roll it over to an IRA.

Rolling over a 401k to an IRA could impact your ability to do backdoor Roth IRA contributions in the future. Just something to be aware of.

You have to rollover to an IRA.

If you actually retired then the money cannot remain in a 401k and must be rolled over to an IRA. Fidelity will do that. I believe it’s the same for the retirement acct that APA contributes to.

Based on what I was told by fidelity: you can keep it as long as you want if your balance is greater than $7000. Can't combine retirement plan with 401k. Book keeping and admin fees still apply. If you have positions in brokeragelink, they have to be liquidated in order to be rollover to other plans such IRA.

You can keep your 401k within the APA/Fidelity net benefits account (provided your balance meets some threshold, as I recall) or you can roll it over to your own IRA, whether at Fidelity or elsewhere.

I’d roll it over. Why be tethered to APA if you don’t have to?
