Thread regarding JPMorgan Chase & Co. layoffs

Fortune Magazine: As JPMC enforces a 5-day RTO, staffers complain about too few desks, spotty Wi-Fi, and sneezing, sick coworkers

Yep ... this is exactly what we're experiencing in my office too:

"It’s the first week of JPMorgan Chase’s return-to-office mandate that obliges thousands of people to come back in five days a week, and so far the adjustment has been less than smooth. Tensions are high among the bank’s employees, who are grousing about noisy workplaces, sporadic Wi-Fi, and sick coworkers who cough and sneeze.

One of the biggest problems facing JPMorgan Chase staffers, though, is the lack of desks. The nation’s largest bank has a desk reservation system, but for some sites it doesn’t work, or the policy is “first come, first serve,” according to seven JPM employees who spoke to Fortune. This means that many employees, when they arrive at their workplace, will find all the desks filled, forcing them to hunt for a place to do their work. None of the workers, whose identities are known to Fortune and who are spread all over the U.S., wanted to speak on the record for fear of retaliation."

Don’t cave in. Hold the line.
They can’t RIF all of us - and there’s plenty of jobs out there, at least according to the new masters of the universe, to whom JD also kowtows.

We are not at war , we are in excel. Let's not use the "boots on the ground" rhetoric.
Back in the days when companies didn't fire it's stuff even for mistakes , maybe moving you where you potentially do less harm, when medical insurance was cheap, when companies still had pension plan, when a working man could afford having his wife as SAHM with 3-4 kids, yes, loyalty was justified.
Now, when our jobs are outsorced, when most of us work practically to get food on the table (last time I checked, working for food was one of the definitions of slavery) , when JD is mapping brails of his best analysts hoping to get working AI models to replace all of us with no remorse, what do they expect in return exactly ?

We have gotten softer since 2009 chica. Enjoy boating before it gets taxed. I personally do not appreciate comparing war and military service to an Operations job sorry but they are way different

I am confused by the RTO fray. I retired 10 years ago. I retired with dignity and respect. Chase Mortgage and Auto departments for default. We were expected to have long hours. We all did. We respected our team leads VP all the way up to Senior Management. Yes, Dimon was my boss. It was during the financial collapse. It was the hardest and most rewarding job I had. I was in finance for 47 years in the corporate world. There is no way we could have done these jobs at home. Yes I had an over hour commute each day Mon- Sat. 60 hours. I got paid well. Still have pension and 401K. In 2009 our AVP retired US Army would get us motivated by yelling Welcome to the combat zone. Take care of each other! We were the clean up crew. It is coming again....record consumer debt, short sales, foreclosures Auto repossession. I worked in Tampa Fl. Said my peace. Going out on the boat today in the Gulf of America. I am not a troll or a BOT what ever that means.

I am not full time RTO yet but I have a friend in upper management who's location returned FT 3/3. He said morale is very low and production really has slowed down significantly. Employees are spending most of their time taking multiple trips to Starbucks, going for lengthy walks, etc. Many are not at their desks most of the time. He's onboard with hybrid being here to stay and realizes how efficient his teams were with a better work/life balance with hybrid schedules. A lot of upper management sees this, too bad the CEO of the entire company cannot.

I just go to office and chitchat and gossip all day. They want us to connect with others in person ? They got it !

I am doing way less work now that we are back in the office 5 days a week. I take my breaks and my hour lunch and walk around all day talking to people. They want us to talk and see each other so I am making the most of it.

This will increasingly be the case as this policy ramps up.
Anecdotal evidence shows that many have NOT RTOd this week.
Just wait until the rollout takes hold across the various sites.
Stay tuned.

I'm pretty sure the JD hasn't lost one wink of sleep over this. He does NOT care in the least!
