Thread regarding Optum layoffs

27 people laid off from US IT

as feared they just took an axe to US IT.

years of progress just flushed down the toilet. enjoy struggling with "tier 2" who have been hired off the streets.

The overseas it support staff have been a complete disaster. My teams receive empty tickets from them all the time for problems not related to our area. Whatever money they think they are saving is not an accurate number because instead of having it support they have people routing them to high paid software engineers to do call center level troubleshooting. They don’t account for all the engineering time wasted due to every IT request being forwarded to application teams. It’s been a struggle this past year since they did their last IT layoff and now I think the floodgates are going to open with no sane people left to handle problems.

This makes me so sad.
The only time I get actual results is when I finally get to speak with a US IT person.
Of course it takes several hours/days before I finally get a US tech.
I have to waste production time dealing with offshore who can only read from a script. Who don’t understand English enough to grasp context.

Get engaged. Tariffs need to apply to American companies outsourcing overseas employees or contractors. Write your congressmen, your senators and be relentless on social media. An IT engineer making 108k in the states makes 34k in US dollars in India. We don’t have a chance unless there is a policy change.

They basically let all of the US second level team go. The ones that actually did the hard issues. Wanted actually replaced computers or actually fixed an issue as opposed to just replacing a PC. The ones that have been here long enough and knew how to fix things first the people that just read from a script and have no clue what they're doing. Everyone off to the Philippines now

The lady from target who has failed her way upward and has her team baking numbers, closing tickets without any work and continues to toss fairy dust into the wind in hopes she finds success. The business groups will eventually catch on to how sh---y the support is they are actually getting, but hey she made VP now, what does she care?

That is incredibly frustrating. I'm sure they kept the useless ones hired while getting rid of the techs who actually did the work. I'm sorry this happened, good luck to you
