Will Cisco follow Amazon in cutting middle management?

"Amazon CEO says he’s cutting middle managers because they want to ‘put their fingerprint on everything.’ That’s music to the ears of Gen Z"

Cisco need more engineers and less managers. Never worked for a company that despises engineers so much. In Cisco, engineer is peasant in ELT view.

Without middle managers, who wpuld roll out changes that make everyone's job harder just so the manager can look like they are doing something?

Never! Cisco is a sales driven company. Cisco is not selling products but good stories. Managers are the protected bunch but engineers are dispensable . I can testify that my group hired a new manager but laid off four engineers in the last November.

Which middle managers would they fire? At Cisco there seems to be an upper middle manager with reports who would be the middle middle manager who has a lower middle manager reporting to them. Then there is the IC reporting to the lower middle manager so that the lower, middle middle and upper middle manager can report all the great accomplishments the IC, lower middle middle and upper middle manager have done. Well done team!

Yes this is the plan in sales at least. Lots of cost savings to be had with no decrease, and probably an increase, of performance. Happening to FLMs too, though.
