Has somebody asked for RTO exception? What was your experience?

I'm aware of a few medical exemptions. The request goes through HR, just like other exception request...not a difficult process if your health issue is legit.
Upon approval, their status was just flipped back to remote by HR. Not sure if they're still subject to the same career limitations that other remotes are now subject to, since this seems like an ADA accommodation (??).
"If I have to go there, It will be to badge in and leave so I can go home and actually get some work done."
That was my plan as well, but I have heard rumors that they monitor who's using the office network vs the vpn. Any less than 4 hours on the office network or more than 4 hours on the vpn and your name is reported to your manager.
I was asked to RTO and I am over an hour commute. I have not been there yet. Still fighting with my mgr and working it through HR. It doesn't look good so far but I'm still awaiting an outcome. If I have to go there, It will be to badge in and leave so I can go home and actually get some work done. My team is in another country.
Coworker of mine, he has a medical exemption to WFH. But he’s a good hard worker and I feel deserves to WFH (he has auto immune disorder has several doctor appt per week).
"So this person lives 120 miles away and they told them they need to come in? I find that hard to believe."
Whatever program they are using determined that it's only a 58 minute drive. Only way to even come close to that would be if you hit every light green, drove 10-15 mph over the speed limit and left at 1 AM when theres practically zero traffic.

He should dust off his resume. 2 hours is too long of a commute.
Yes.
The experience was fantastic.
I personally haven't, but a friend of mine did. He lives a good 2 hours away and was still told he was expected to RTO. He's gone through multiple discussions with his nanager (who is 100% on his side) and multiple HR tickets. He still has not received anything in writing, but started to gain traction when he showed his math proving RTO 5x/week will cost him nearly $10k a year just in gas AND that the average price for a house less than 60 mins away from the office is significantly higher than anyone at our pay grade can afford.
