Thread regarding UnitedHealth Group Inc. layoffs

Why didn't you take the VRSP?

We've heard a lot about reasons people took it, but I'm curious to hear from people who decided not to take it? What were your main reasons?

I didn't take it because I'm barely making ends meet as it is. Need my benefits due to health issues
This is so stressful

Didn’t take it because I want to leave on my own terms. Not gonna make it easy for them. If they don’t like me or value my work they can fire me. Especially when supervisors and managers are incompetent and cozy relaxing doing nothing! I figure if I stay I will get more paychecks than the pay out.

I didn’t take advantage of the VRSP opportunity. I enjoy my job. I work with good people, including managers and director. I’ll take my chances.

I’m in a blue state and took it because I’m retiring. I’m not looking for another job. When you sign up for unemployment you need to be ready willing and able to work which would not be me. I’m ready to not work.

Don’t take it if you live in a blue state with good unemployment benefits. If you were to get Rifed or severed, you only gain a month of benefits at full rate vs months of unemployment insurance. However, if you live in the red state, and you have su-ky unemployment, you’re better off taking the offer.

Because I really like my job.

I didn’t choose since I’m a few years from retirement and the severance isn’t enough to cover the gap. The job market is tight and jobs are scarce. Congrats to those that were able to take advantage.

Did not elect, would rather not sit here for months waiting to leave. Could not wrap my head around that part.

My spouse is a federal employee. They’ve been going through so much trauma and day to day we don’t know if they’ll have a job tomorrow. It didn’t seem smart for me to elect for the VRSP with all that going on, plus I know it can be hard to land a job right now (we are nowhere near retirement age so I’d have to find work again). I’m just hoping I’m not targeted in a layoff later. I really like my job too, I’ve been at this company a long time, I don’t want to be laid off. I’m trying to remain positive - that both my spouse and I will keep our jobs. I hope that’s the case.

Main reason I did not take it, is because I would have not been eligible for unemployment. Sometimes it takes months to land a job, so I didn’t want to risk running out of funds. Although unemployment is not much, it’s still a steady income.
