Thread regarding Macy's Inc. layoffs

I gotta say, I admire how some of you stay so positive

After all the bad decisions and mismanagement that’s pretty much ruined Macy’s, I can’t believe anyone still thinks things will get better. Where’s that optimism coming from? Right now, I’m just focused on finding a new job, not waiting around to see if things magically improve in a month or a year.

Macy’s is a sinking ship mired in poor leadership, uninspired Private Label merchandise, miserable corporate culture, and toxic mismanagement. Instead of coaching and leading by example, these so-called leaders are pointing fingers, avoiding all accountability, and creating a horrible work environment for those of us who simply want to do our jobs. RTW design has become a sad, soulless shell of its former self. Favoritism runs rampant. Cliques are everything: if you’re not in, you’re out. Designers have no agency and are forced to “design” (read: knock off) whatever leadership deems worth. People are leaving left and right because they are demoralized, burnt out, and miserable. It’s beyond me why none of this has raised any alarm bells. Management is TOXIC. Something needs to be done.

They also don’t give raises. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.

What can you do? There’s not many options right now in a dying industry. Everywhere you look, places like Kohls, Walmart, Gap, Bloomies, Saks, etc are all closing doors. So you can either sit and be miserable and go down with the ship and spread your misery onto everyone you work with or be proactive and do what you said you were doing and look for another job. That’s exactly what I’m doing. I’ve been on the hunt for prospects outside of retail bc the corporate life and it’s ridiculous politics and gaslighting and tone deaf initiatives are not for me anymore. And I’m tired of year after year worrying about my job security. The incentives and bonuses Macys offers, is not worth it. My bonuses are not what they used to be. I saw someone else mention the same thing on another thread. It’s true. Then find loopholes so they don’t have to compensate you and Tony’s bottom line is protective bc god forbid some of these greedy execs and VPs take a pay cut of their own but they rather drill it down to the people who put in blood sweat and tears and either lay them off or not give them what they deserve financially.
