In office people dramatically slowing our team down

So ever since Monday there is a common theme every day. People working in the office are always late to meetings and then is always awful noise when they join due to the laughter on the line, then when they do join it takes half the meeting of endless “can’t hear you” cause the microphones are in the ceilings for whatever reason.

I am starting to think that nothing is slower than the speed of human interaction, this is hitting our team badly and I’m so glad I was told to continue wfh due to no desks available.

Only a crazy person thinks in office is better

Funny thing is on my team it's the 20 somethings that are perpetually late to everything and their performance (or lack thereof) is dragging the whole team down. They refuse to listen to anyone's advice to get better at their jobs too.

One thing I will miss is lunch with my cute neighbor across the hall. Her roommate sometimes joins us. Working at home I was productive and getting to know a neighbor. Plus my lunches were better than just brown bagging it.

While advancing quickly, AI still faces major hurdles before it can truly replace many jobs, especially in complex business environments. A lot of AI hype is built on potential rather than immediate impact.

Internal business processes especially at Dell are intricate, often involving legacy systems, regulatory constraints, and human-driven decision-making that AI struggles to fully grasp. Even in industries where AI automation is making inroads, it’s usually augmenting rather than outright replacing human roles.

For now, AI is a tool that can boost productivity, but it’s nowhere near autonomous enough to fully disrupt most high-skilled jobs.

The problem isn’t the age of an employee, Dell’s lack of innovation and reacting to the trends rather than setting them is due to the bureaucracy.

We have levels of management who do nothing but collate data supplied by their direct reports and then pass it up to the next level. If that’s not begging to be replaced by AI, nothing is.
In the past those collators had a function, in staff meetings they would pass along policy and tech changes from other groups or their superiors. That’s not done anymore,

Trim the bureaucracy and watch the ideas flow.

These statistics highlight the demographic shifts within corporate America, with older workers comprising a significant and growing portion of the labor force, while younger generations represent a smaller segment.

Look around, you’ll see that the majority of the workforce falls within the very age group being discussed. Younger generations are actually the minority, especially in higher-paying roles. Senior leadership and top-paying positions are still largely dominated by middle-aged white males. That’s just the reality of the corporate landscape.

No one is against old people. I believe companies like Dell are end of career places and them being there makes most sense.

Retirement? Hey, “Logan’s Run”, tell me what you think is old? If you’re in your mid to late 20s or older, this summer’s batch of interns will probably have you to running to Google or some gen AI to look up the slang they just used or the explanation of some tech they referred to. In someone’s eyes, you’re already old.

Ok wait. All we've heard are stories of people WFH and allegedly running errands, mowing the lawn, providing childcare, watching TV or whatever.

These people were vociferous about RTO. No more wasting time at home. Get in and get to work.

Odd now that there is blatant time waste in-office. Where are all you RTO cheerleaders now? Don't be shy, folks. Clearly, this is at odds with your stated vision of a fleet of drones descending on the office, doing nothing but work until quitting time.

It's always been like that since they asked us to pick hybrid or remote over a year ago. In office people are never active on teams either. They stand in groups in the hallways and chat for hours then spend an hour in a expo for partners themed like bridgerton haha. They must do all their work at home after hours cause they don't do anything productive at work. Also car events in the parking lot... okay cool dude some of us have work to do.

Old ppl near retirement makes the best fit for dell. Honestly nothing innovative happens there.
