Thread regarding Macy's Inc. layoffs

Sales decline so much

One month into the new fiscal year. The first months seems not looking good. Sales numbers are declining much comparing with last year. How are folks in store feeling about the sales condition?

We soooo behind with Beauty. Ulta gets exclusives and has trendy brands. We have a bunch of tired brands. I rarely see younger folks checking out the Beauty dept.
Sales in my store have been down a bit. Getting ki-led on loyalty.

I work at a fairly small store so we don't have deep selection on brands. I want to find inexpensive stuff for work (I'm BOH) but the fit profiles SU-K! Style and Co t-shirts are too sheer or too short when u raise your arms. Didnt used to be that way. On 34th is too young. Tommy and Nautica could be the same brand as they look so much alike and I'm not a fan of red. JM and Jones...all poly. Suits and dresses...don't need those.
We have the same pant and sweater in 3
different brands! I thought we were getting rid of dupes.

Just my thoughts here. Jeff Genette tried to cater to all types of customers. Bringing in Backstage, along with the huge amount of Last Act stores own has attracted a very deep value driven customer. Now most of our customers are only picking through the cheap goods and the core customer left years ago. The bargain shoppers won't touch the higher priced goods until they hit the last act racks.

Bloomingdale’s and Backstage is off to a great start. It’s Macys mailbox that has abysmal business. Macys is too expensive now, especially their children’s section. People are not looking to spend crazy amounts of money anymore on clothes. Backstage offers fast fashion at affordable prices while Bloomies still caters to the more lux customer which Macys is also trying to be but shouldn’t. They need to stop saturating their floors with dated brands like MK, CK, RL bc it doesn’t get more basic than that and that is not going to attract the Gen Z customer. Macys needs to totally rebrand themselves and stop targeting a demographic that is now starting to die out. Only Boomers and older Gen Xers are their customer and they are doing themselves a disservice by not attracting the millennials and Gen Z customer.

I’m glad it’s not only me who has noticed that. I’ve definitely noticed this in my store too. I’ve been with the company for over a decade now & years ago we used to much busier. I guess it’s just a sign of the times sadly & I agree with the other commenter once the tariffs kick in it’s not going to get better.
