They expected more people to quit. That's it. That's the main reason for the chaos. That's why there's not enough room at some locations. They expected more people would quit and they wouldn't have to deal with it. I have to admit, as uncomfortable as it is for myself, I'm enjoying watching it play out.

If you think AI is a hype bubble you haven’t learned how to use it effectively. The only hype is it replacing workers anytime soon, but it will happen.
No one is smart enough to create any tool there. Look at their order processing, 41 years later it's still a joke.

Those who think it’s really the plan to replace us with AI are misguided. AI is just a hype bubble and a fig leaf for cost cutting by replacing IT and many Dell badge (who have rights and high pay) with cloud and contractors who can scale up and down much faster. Top management thinks this is the way to velocity and profitability. Time will tell if they’re right. But they’re not stupid enough to think AI is really replacing us. Or are they?
No possible way we can let more people go.The tools are in no way suitable.

Having worked at this company for several years, my experience is they can't get the tools they already have working the way they intended. Maybe I'm underestimating AI Maverick, but there is no chance in Dell they could release a tool to replace a large portion of sales.
Maverick = removing all manual touch points in the sales process from AE to factory globally using AI development tools and AI chats to help the 1 sales person who remains. Everyone globally who touches an order will be WFR at some point by end of the year if IT can deliver the project. All the current IT people supporting the current tools go at the same time as the sales motion folks. 10K+ cuts in Q3 and Q4 to get below 80K global employees.
Project Goose is also happening. Breaking necks on ejection.
Maverick is a rumored initiative- it’s been described as many things from cutting the workforce in half to time travel.
