Thread regarding Comcast layoffs

FCC investigation of Comcast and NBCUniversal

The link shown here is a letter that was sent to Comcast CEO Brian Roberts about allegations of potentially illegal DEI activity at Comcast and NBCUniversal: https://x.com/BrendanCarrFCC/status/1889752017150812321/photo/1. I'm am interested in your thoughts if the complaint is true or not. As I see it, there are just token, checkbox, and largely ineffective DEI programs across Comcast and NBCUniversal. There's heavy DEI and "wokeness" in the film, TV, and other content, but I wasn't aware that was illegal.

Comcast has been up to this nonsense since George Floyd. They jumped on the bandwagon with all the fake outrage. They hosted “DEI” days across the company, pushed “implicit and explicit bias” training, had DEI goals for all departments and even went as far as adjusting pay raises down for some and up for others (minorities) to push equity. This was done to people that had many more years of experience and better skill sets than those who were given the “equity bump”. Very sad to see this company crumble into a pile of rubble. So much more has been done to undermine performance, but not enough space to post.

@Fairness I'm not sure you are in the same company, maybe you are network engineering?
The rest of the company is full of neoptism and tribal backstabbing based on over 2 decades of experience.

They need to target more older white males. Get them out of office too. Need some new blood running things.

Comcast has always been fair in their selections fulfilling roles within each department. Hard workers get chosen based on their work ethic and skillsets to fill relevant roles. I have never witnessed favoritism, and I have worked within numerous departments. If you have no managerial experience or degree, you will not get a managerial role. If you have no technical skills or degrees, you will not attain an IT or Engineering role. Comcast has always been fair, this is just a way for the FCC to make a splash.

My read on it is the recent layoffs targeted people at the top or above the high end of their pay band. Maybe it is a coincidence there are a lot of older white males in that category? Or it is just how the world works in the corporate space. I hear your concern though - you might be right.

Probably? Those CIEC folks are still wearing Comcast badges, aren't they? --> "Well they can always point to moving 1000+ jobs to India as DEI right?"

Do you think layoffs may appear to target older white males for any other reason?

The complaint is 100% legit. 2 years ago all leaders were given the goal

"Taking intentional steps in hiring, advancement, and successor processes and develops focused engagement and retention strategies designed to make progress toward achieving aspirational DE&I goals (50% women and 33% POC at every level)."

Recent waves of layoffs have largely targeted older white males.

It is laughable to think that anyone here at Comcast likes DEI. There are a few statistical outliers yes but the vast majority of people that had that dogma shoved down their throats I can tell you emphatically do not love it,in fact they hate it a great deal. The fact that it is being eliminated has been met with cheers.

Comcast has done nothing illegal and a lot of current and former employees love the focus on diversity in the company. Layoffs are hard but pot stirring on anonymous message boards isn't going to find the next job.

Not surprised. What they did the last 4 years would be considered "illegal DEI".

just an easy way for the administration to blackmail companies and orgs that arent bending the knee, I think. Trump H A T E S media that criticises him, and the DEI boogeyman is a useful scapegoat to litigate msnbc into the dust. and generally ""encourage"" orgs to align with him ideologically or risk losing fed funding, regulatory approvals, etc etc.
we'll see what happens as it moves through the courts, its obviously unconstitutional as its written right now, but who knows, maybe the judges will only make em tighten up the language.

businesses might be of two minds about it though, since without the 'equity' parts of dei programs, they could go back to underpaying different groups of people, which could actually be huge for dei efforts. replacing the $1.00 male workforce with the $.75 woman is just good business, right? /s
downside is if you pi-s trump off they can handwave about prayer rooms or complimentary tamp-ns in bathrooms or culturally themed potlucks or the company's ethnic makeup and say its promoting certain groups, woke dei whatever and crush your org

Equal opportunity employment laws are supposed to be equal opportunity for everyone regardless of race religion color creed or what have you. So if any group is favored or pushed ahead at the expense of another it is therefore illegal in that is why they are being investigated and they have no protection anymore so Comcast is going to get pounded with so many lawsuits that they won't know what to do with it.

It’s bullsh-t. It’s a political circus and MAGA revenge. Comcast primarily supports Democratic candidates. Also shockingly they gave money to that dou--e from Florida CD01 MG. What were they thinking?
