Thread regarding Charles Schwab Corp. layoffs

Tableau - STS layoffs

Who runs tableau, specifically myservice? Have they been laid off? Why has the data not updated?

Entire departments rely on this information, the fact that we are a call center and pushing to be lean, it’s mind blowing that someone still has a job when they cannot consistently make a program work. Is it a Schwab thing? How can we improve if we cannot see our last week/month performance?

My team is losing confidence in STS and leadership at Schwab, because it doesn’t make sense to be held to metrics that are hidden.

Recurring meetings with myself, sounds good.

Your team is -losing- confidence with STS? You must be new here. The issue is less STS and more leadership. Upper management always picks the cheapest option when it comes to tech/vendors, and then spends so much more money in the long run trying to fix issues that could have been avoided had they just paid for a quality solution in the first place.

Schwab is too cheap to afford real tech experts. Competency would blow up the 1.5+ billion dollar IT budget grift. Besides, the Tsars are too busy missunderstanding how availability zones work or what teams actually need them in every datacenter. Our DR is a joke.

Guys this is easy, we can put a couple dozen project managers on this problem to get it solved. Daily 1 hour working sessions followed by 1 hour end of day recap sessions to capture what was done in the working sessions.

Oh and I heard something about the Glint scores. These are rookie numbers, we need to get the scores up.

The databases Tableau reads (cough, RemedyDB) break from time to time. All normal when there is no accountability outside trade impacting disruptions.

Fun story: A few years ago, I had to use IE with IE6 or 7 compatibility mode enabled so I could use a reporting tool STS couldnt retire because the people that set it up 10 years before left. The new tech director over the process was tungsten dense and didnt understand what End of Life meant.

Tableau is… not really centrally managed. I mean the Server instance is, but specific dashboards should have owners that are identified and responsible for the data.

Erroneous! Erroneous on all counts!

Look at Schwab damage control in effect! Always trying to "manage" the problem, instead of accept feedback to "resolve" the problem. This is the Schwab way.

STS likes to have too many meetings and over-engineer projects with technology of the past.

The Infrastructure as a Service offering is perhaps one of the worst pieces of garbage I have seen. IF it works, you get a half-baked solution. Who continues to employ this team of maroons? Oh, I forgot, this is an STS / I&O thread. My bad, smh.

Thank you all for reporting about the company you work for. It makes me aware and glad that I don't have my investments in Charles Schwab. This is a failure of management, not the rank and file employees.

Almost every area in STS is lacking direction.

Tiny and Menace are bad leaders you say?

Been here 4.5 years and that's just how STS works. They'll hire people that claim they know how to make some technology run, but you'll have issues like you're having many years after. Is anyone paying attention? Often times, no.

Have you ever tried to build a server though our Infrastructure as a Service process? Or tried to work with the Remedy ITSM team to get data out of their databases? They'll fight you and it takes months for something simple. Almost every area in STS is lacking direction. It seems no one on these teams care how bad it is for people to use their awful tools. Most of them are vendor tools with paid support. Our tech people are asleep at the wheel.
