if you didn't see this coming and take steps to…

This is the only useful thing managers should have been communicating to their reports.

Hmm.. I would have to disagree with you - "this-is-not-Brian". You said "but he had zero say in the matter. " looking at the people that were let go versus the ones that got to stay, I noticed his minions survived with utilization at less than 40% and without knowing the difference between NSX and NSX ALB and same thing goes for David L. His favorite guys that talk during his meetings most of the time got to stay while not being on any customer project for the past 2 years and only being on special projects that are just cr-p but nobody wants to say it. Broadcom is a great equalizer here, I know most of the remaining folks will also be gone by the end of the year, if not the middle but he is doing all he can to extend their life support.

What’s the endgame for partner delivered services. Surely it’s all services? Is everyone now not looking over their shoulder each day, even more than before?

"...if you didn't see this coming and take steps to begin a job search before this week, then you should direct some of the anger you feel about your current situation back on yourself for being complacent and/or lazy..."

AMEN. This is a cr-ppy situation all around, but you can't say we shouldn't have seen this coming. I was frankly too lazy to ramp a job search, but I did invest in updating my resume and had started working LinkedIn... now I get to focus 100% on my search.

Bon voyage, VMware.

"The Dilbert principle applies perfectly to Brian M."

OK so I'm going to stand up for Brian, and no - this is not Brian typing this. Anyone who thinks Brian is incompetent, either doesn't know Brian or is simply smearing him. Hock handed this sh1tty partner-delivered services strategy to Brian and told him to implement it. I know for a fact this is not the strategy Brian would have preferred, but he had zero say in the matter.

It su-ks if you were one of the many consultants who just lost your job, and certainly being out of work is stressful and uncomfortable. I am very empathetic to your situation, because I've been there myself a few times earlier in my career. However just because you have been RIFd is no reason to smear a guy who is simply doing his job as best he can. Honestly, if you didn't see this coming and take steps to begin a job search before this week, then you should direct some of the anger you feel about your current situation back on yourself for being complacent and/or lazy.

The Dilbert principle is inspired by the Peter principle, which is that employees are promoted based on success until they attain their "level of incompetence" and are no longer successful. By the Dilbert principle, employees who were never competent are promoted to management to limit the damage they can do.

The Dilbert principle applies perfectly to Brian M., although many may disagree as he is still causing damage.

It's true that RSU's are gone but accepting an offer doesn't impact severance. Start date is after the WARN period ends. Don't spread lies.

  • Now the partners are trying to get most people laid off to work the same job with Broadcom as a contractor. Good bye RSUs and they want you as soon as possible so if you take it no severance since you can’t take a job during the WARN period.

RE: the question about severance packages - Based upon what I heard about the severance of one person who was affected, it seems that the package was 2 months + 2 weeks per year of service. No way to confirm this, of course.

hopefully it is at Citibank with that 0.1% interest rate

Citibank does not have money market accounts. I wish schools taught kids about money and investing. Wake up people. MAGA. Trump is going to crash this stock market and the housing market. The people who voted for Trump are not able to buy houses or cars. The hyper financialization and fake economy only works for the top 10%. The 10% votes Democratic anyway. Need to destroy the PeeeeEEeee funds.

Brian M was a useless transformation consultant way back when and the team is useless too... absolutely no value .. just talk and PowerPoints

This guy sound like of the talking heads/BS-er (E.g. Initialis CC) that seem to survive every round of layoffs with minimal work & maximum talk and is probably one of Brian M's/David L's minion.

because I have 4 mil in a money market account.

Sounds like a great investment, hopefully it is at Citibank with that 0.1% interest rate.

You are wise beyond your years.

Yes, many in the PSO (VMware Software Professional Services, AKA "Consulting") were laid off today. I was laid off via email, as were a great many others. Like myself many were laid off even though we had very high utilization. If you did not work for the right person, then your team was gutted. if you did, it did not matter how poor your utilization was or what value, if any you provided, you stayed. This was simply a numbers game. My understanding is there will be more reduction in a couple of months.

Every quarter a few thousand will be cut. Severance is expensive.

Sell your stocks and build that emergency fund.

I don't need emergency fund because I have 4 mil in a money market account.

The cuts in PS are massive. Some finding out by email. Some offered temp roles. Others may apply to go work for partners. Its the Broadcom formula all over again.
