Thread regarding Shell Oil layoffs

Trump Zelensky meeting

Focusing just on the part where oil was mentioned.
Trump is correct that there is more than enough oil in the US, I think he mentioned we have plenty of oil several times. The only issue is the price at which it is economic. He's a bit wild with the tariffs but that could be a bonanza for the oil industry.
Please let's avoid the commentary on the war in Ukraine.

The war is unwinnable for the Russians, the Ukrainians will never give up.

The US authorized $170 B for military aid and an additional $180 B for broader support to Ukraine. Almost all the military aid has been sent. Less of the broader support has been been sent.

That some of the military aid has created some residual benefits in the US does not negate that the spending is directly a result of this war.

Ben Franklin is not here to be interviewed but my guess is he would not be in favor of wasting money in perpetuity on an unwinnable foreign war with 500 k casualties annual amongst the combatants.

The US spent 1.1 trillion dollars on the Iraq war... and they didn't even do anything.

The estimate is that the US has spent 120 billion dollars on the Ukranian war; but 50 billion of that stayed here in the US funding US jobs.

I think all the people in the US, Canada, UK, and EU who think burning $150 - 200 B per annum on an unwinnable war should be able to check a box on their tax return to add 10% to their tax bill dedicated to this stupid cause.

I think we would learn is that bleeding heart bleating is acres wide but a millimeter deep.

One man leaves Washington to continue his country’s fight for survival and democracy. The other man leaves Washington to continue his fight to break par on his Florida golf course.
Oh, and if it was insulting that one man showed up in battle fatigues for an Oval Office meeting, why wasn’t it equally insulting for another man to show up for a Cabinet meeting in a logo t-shirt and ball cap?

Trump said that he wants to boost US oil production to drive down the cost per barrel, then the money supply to Russia will decrease. Shell doesn't have a spigot to turn to crank up production, so they'll fall by the wayside as both the production declines and the price of oil falls. Even if there is plenty of oil in the US Shell cannot access much more of it.

No sir, there is not enough oil on this continent for our economy. As you know there are several different grades of oil.

Sure thing fella. Where do you think the steel comes from to make all that oil field equipment? Let me tell you. About a third of our steel is imported from, you guessed it, Canada and Mexico.
