Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

Is Dell stalking us?!

Forgive my ignorance (not super techy), but is geo-fencing like legal stalking?! Is Dell really paying people to check where we all live and make sure we’re there all the time? I feel this is very much treating us like children. Will we be wearing tracking collars next? (Better not give them any ideas…)

If they use Google maps, then I want to see how accurate they are, how accuracy testing is done and how often, and if calculations behind are certified or not. Without all this simple citation and reference to Google maps by the HR is just a BS.

You provided your home email when you joined the company and per policy and the employment agreement you signed, you need to keep an updated current address on file. Home address impacts a lot of things from COL cities to taxes. They simply took the addresses and assigned status based on that. They are not tracking you.

I don't know about everyone else but my team was required to give dell our home addresses. Their "geo fencing" is more than likely just some very basic automated process that checks the travel time from our home address to the nearest office on Google maps.

What is that going to tell them anyway?

I suspect dell's been keeping a lot of metrics on employees and repackaging it as much as possible to sell on the open market.
