Security layoff?

It looks like a whole security team is being made redundant, and laid off in Houston. Despite employees in that group earning way below market (50kish) it was cheaper to have India or contractors in Ireland cover those needs. Good luck implementing a cheap but unsustainable security coverage…

Several years ago, security-related jobs were hot and paid well. Fast forward to today and the market is flooded with “security” engineers so it’s not surprising that this work is offshored to India or farmed out to H1B contractors.
The new hot item is AI so that seems to be the latest item to add to your resume.

I came here after I noticed that some of my former coworkers are looking for work on LinkedIn. I’m not sure if these people worked on security-related items or not because I didn’t directly work with them but I recognized their names.

From a post earlier…lay offs have been happening in small numbers since December/january. Every group will have to slice one, two, three…all…it is ongoing. If you don’t meet the “ROI quota” out you go.

Most security just stands around. Technology will replace human work that does not require critical thinkings.

Just get a few dobermans from the shelter, and tie them to a leash near the doors in Houston.

AI for anything routine, i.e., 90% of security.
